A passenger bus veered off the road and was left hanging off an over pass in the Bronx on January 14, 2021. The bus eventually fell 50 feet onto the roadway below, injuring passengers in the process. Eight people were injured, including the bus driver, and are currently being treated for their injuries. Most of the injuries were minor though the driver is in serious condition. The incident happened at 11:10 p.m. on the Cross Bronx Expressway at University Avenue. The bus swerved off the road, crashed through the barriers, and was then hanging off the overpass onto the road below. The FDNY responded to the incident and made sure that all fuel and other hazardous materials is secured and moved away from the scene.
Authorities believe that the driver may have experienced some type of brake failure or did not navigate the turn properly. Both of these situations are common causes of car, truck, and bus accidents. Drivers need to practice safe driving techniques at all times to help protect themselves from injury or death. Buss drivers are putting themselves and their passengers in danger if they do not handle their vehicle properly and drive safely.
